Cooking Workshops in Utah’s Red Rock Country

Throughout my life, I have been fascinated by food and its central place in our lives. Not only does it sustain us, but it provides opportunities for us to gather with those we love. As a teenager, I spent time exploring the boulangeries and patisseries of Paris, and the word baguette still conjures up the exquisite smell and taste of that warm bread. For the past 20 years I have been writing about celebrations centered on food, reviewing restaurants, and profiling chefs. Having become certified as a Master Gardener, my recent writing has focused on the satisfaction of growing your own herbs, fruits, and vegetables.
Writing is one way of sharing knowledge, but beginning with my earliest experiences teaching children to swim, I have always been passionate about helping others to learn. In the grocery store or at the farmers’ market, I find myself explaining how to select a juicy lime or a ripe cantaloupe. And in my professional kitchen in Torrey, Utah, I will teach you techniques for cooking memorable meals in the majestic setting that has made Torrey a destination for travelers from around the world.
My kitchen is designed for many cooks, and I believe the best teachers combine theory and practice. My favorite question has always been, “Why?” and I encourage everyone to ask questions. But watching someone perform a task is not the same as doing it yourself. The primary emphasis of Canyons & Cuisine is hands-on cooking workshops in which you will be the star. My kitchen has two massive granite islands, plenty of counter space, a stone sink big enough to bathe a baby in, six ovens, and more cookbooks than you can count. The goal in my weekend cooking workshops is for you to learn key principles and then try them out. And my Torrey kitchen is the perfect place for this to happen. After eating all the delicious food that you have prepared, you will feel confident about trying these recipes out when you get home.
